Despite having a large Vietnamese population, there isn’t a proper shop for buying traditional Vietnamese-style clothing known as ao dai. That appears set to change with a Vietnamese-style clothing boutique being planned for Harvey in the West Bank. A permit filing with Jefferson Parish indicates a tenant build out for Trang Ao Dai at 1525 Lapalco Blvd. in Harvey, and recent posts on Facebook indicate that a Vietnamese clothing and accessories store is being planned for the address. In Vietnamese, the term “ao dai” refers to a traditional-style long tunic. While it is commonly associated with women, there are male styles of ao dai as well. These garments are typically worn for formal events like weddings and graduations. Although there’s no official indication that the upcoming shop in Harvey will carry the garment, it would seem likely that it will.
