Hanami Nights Brings Cherry Blossom Spectacle to Brooklyn

A cherry blossom celebration, Hanami Nights, will take place in the city this April, featuring cultural activities, live performances, and food options.

The Brooklyn Botanical Garden will host a cherry blossom celebration from April 21 to 24, bringing with it a mix of floral displays, cultural experiences, and other activities. The event, called Hanami Nights, will transform the area into a springtime spot and feature scenic views, live performances, and a variety of food and drink options.

Cherry Blossom Festival to Offer Hands-On Origami and Bonsai

The Hanami Nights will begin from 5 PM to 8.30 PM every day from April 21 until April 24, giving access to the garden’s famous Kanzan trees. Visitors can take a stroll in the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden and along the Cherry Walk. They can try their hands at origami and other Japanese crafts with Sato Yamamoto and Jason Clay Lewis.

They can also view a curated display of bonsai from the Garden’s famous collection and hold picnics under the cherry blossoms. The event will offer Japanese food and drinks.

Visitors can purchase treats from a special menu, which is in collaboration with Japan Village and Saiko Sushi, and picnic under the cherry blossoms.

Live performances

The Hanami Nights will begin from 5 PM to 8.30 PM every day from April 21 until April 24
Cobu: Thaw will be performed from 7:30-8:15 PM on April 24

The event, hosted by Cherry Esplanade emcee and performer Saori Goda, will feature an extensive lineup of talented acts. Ranging from delicate Japanese instrumental performances to toy shows and 19th-century kabuki dances, the acts will offer New Yorkers a glimpse of Japan.

The show opens with Shamisen Variation, Kendama, Masayo Ishigure, Monday Michiru, and Samurai Sword Soul on April 21. On April 22, newer acts like The Miyabi Koto Ensemble, Hina Oikawa Short Songs: A Dialogue Between Tanka and Jazz, and Japanese Dances from Kabuki to Contemporary will perform.

April 23 will witness The Hudson Valley Shakuhachi Choir, Tenugui & Furoshiki Workshop, Miki Hayama Organic Electronics, and Yosakoi Dance & Bon Odori Lighting Up the Spring Night. Visitors can enjoy Tenri Gagaku Music Society of New York, Mayu Saeki Quartet, and Cobu: Thaw on April 24.

Ticket Details

Tickets for the Hanami Nights event on April 21 are now available online and are non-refundable. Adult passes start at $40, while tickets for children aged 3 to 12 are $20. Children under 3 can attend for free.

Members can enjoy discounted rates. The event will be held on and around Cherry Esplanade, with other areas of the Garden closed, and reentry will not be permitted. Whether exploring the gardens or participating in hands-on crafts, visitors are in for a memorable springtime celebration.
