The Rooftop at Pier 17 has canceled plans to convert the venue into a year-round event space. Plans for the glass enclosure have been canceled. The venue had planned to host winter concerts starting late 2025.
The Rooftop at Pier 17 to Remain Seasonal Event Destination
Rooftop at Pier 17 confirmed on its website that it won’t host enclosed events this winter, from November 2025 to February 2026.
Seaport Entertainment Group shared on LinkedIn about 9 months ago that the floor-to-ceiling glass enclosure would have turned the 1.5-acre, five-story venue above the East River into a climate-controlled indoor space.
Even without the enclosure, the Rooftop continues to offer sweeping views of Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge. The winter setup would have accommodated 3,000 guests, slightly fewer than the 3,500 for open-air events. The Rooftop, which opened in 2018, has welcomed over 60 concerts to date.
Deep Roots in the Culture and Commerce of NYC
The Rooftop at Pier 17 is one of New York City’s most iconic concert venues. The live performances offer views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, and One World Trade Center.
Pier 17 was once a hub for shipping and trade, with streets lined with shipbuilders and merchants connecting the young nation to the world.
Its cobblestones and historic architecture recall when the neighborhood became New York’s first 24-hour district; a legacy that inspired the phrase, ‘the city that never sleeps.’
From legendary acts to the city’s trendiest newcomers, the Rooftop’s performances span generations and genres. The official site announced that outdoor concerts will continue as planned.
With its iconic skyline views and diverse lineup, the Rooftop remains a top spot for live music and culture in Lower Manhattan.
