An Authentic Indian Restaurant Slated for the East Village

A new business from Unapologetic Foods is opening soon.

Known for “redefining Indian food,” Unapologetic Foods, is looking to open a new restaurant on 1st Ave. The restaurant group is owned by Roni Mazumdar. Mazumdar is listed as the principal for the new spot.

Chef Chintan Pandya is a James Beard award winning chef who guides the culinary side of things. Santo Pesantez is listed as the manager for the new concept. What Now NY could not immediately reach Pesantez for a comment. 

Unapologetic Foods has a stacked portfolio of brands including Semma, Dhamaka, Adda, Masalawala & Sons, Naks and Rowdy Rooster. Over the past few years, the Unapologetic Foods team have been expanding pre-existing brands and developing new ones. No word yet on what brand this new location will be. 

A questionnaire filed with Community Board 3 for a full liquor license indicates plans to open a restaurant specializing in authentic Indian cuisine. There are plans for indoor, sidewalk cafe and backyard seating. 

What Now NY is unable to confirm an opening timeline.
