Brooklyn’s beloved French bakery L’Appartement 4F is opening a location in Manhattan.
The concept was born in Gautier and Ashley Coiffard’s small Brooklyn apartment, where the duo started making small batches of slow fermented sourdough bread. After garnering an online following, the duo opened a brick-and-mortar bakery by day and wine bar by night in Brooklyn Heights in Spring 2022, explaining that “through lots of trial, error, and butter, we curated a menu that brings France to New York City.”
The duo recently announced that they signed the lease for 119 West 10th Street in the West Village for their first Manhattan outpost, which is part of the apartment complex where James Beard, himself, used to reside.
“L’Appartement 4F is crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and coming to the West Village!!” the team wrote on Instagram. “We just signed the lease so stay tuned while we build this location with more knowledge and wisdom than the first time.”
“I fell in love with this location as soon as we saw it, and when we heard it was James Beards’ old apartment, it was a sign,” the duo wrote on their announcement post. “Gautier also saw that it was a bakery about 100 years ago while filing paperwork.”
