The Windy City’s favorite acai bowls are finally making their way to the Big Apple.

Deep Purpl is a popular new fast-casual acai and smoothie restaurant that has been steadily growing out of Chicago. The brand was established in 2020 by owner Gabriel Fleury, a Brazilian native who established Deep Purple in order to share his love of his country’s popular superfood with the good people of Chicago. The restaurant offers an assortment of different vegan smoothies and bowls, all based around the use of the acai berry.

Often referred to as a “superfood”, the acai berry is native to Central and South America, and is recognized by its deep purple hue (get it?). Equally delicious and nutrient-dense, the acai berry has quickly become a favorite treat for healthy eaters, and healthy eating is what Deep Purpl is all about. Offering four different sizes from 8 ounce to 20 ounce, Deep Purpl’s popular “bowls” are actually served in cups, which are more efficient for on-the-go eating. Guests can customize their bowls with a variety of different toppings like granola, fruits, peanut butter, chia seeds, cacao nibs, and other healthy delights.

Our intrepid reporters at What Now Chicago have been following the company’s growth for some time, and now it appears that Deep Purpl will be moving into new territory. Moving into New York for the first time, Gabriel and the Deep Purpl team have acquired the lease to a new space at 228 Bleecker Street, occupying an historic building on the corner of Carmine and Bleecker Street. The location boasts a total 650 square feet of space.

On Bleecker, Deep Purpl will be joining other popular fast-casual concepts like Sweetgreen, Cocu, and Molly’s Cupcakes. This will be Deep Purpl’s first new location outside of Chicago, and you can follow Deep Purpl on Instagram for more information as they get ready to make the big move.
