Hospitality veterans Will Hock and Lukas Canan, alumni of renowned Manhattan destinations like Dante NYC and The Nines, are preparing to launch a new upscale Italian concept in the East Village called Recente. Located at 182 Second Ave., the restaurant will take over the long-standing Cacio e Pepe space with a menu focused on elevated coastal and regional Italian fare. Standout dishes set to include focaccia with whipped cod roe and sorrel, Spaghetti Al Burro Diretta, and pappardelle with XO tail ragu.
According to an application filed with the city, the owners are seeking a full liquor license. Sadly, specific beverage program details remain under wraps. Permit documents describe the intended vibe as refined and intimate, featuring ambient background music and occasional solo musical performances.
The service at Recente is designed to be high-touch and professional, with ownership planning to be on-site daily to oversee operations. The restaurant can accommodate 49 guests across 18 tables. While there will be a bar, it won’t have stools to maintain a focus on the dining experience. Recente will also have seating in an enclosed backyard that will be open until 10 p.m.
