The old-school Brooklyn-based slice shop, Paulie Gee’s, is looking to cross over the bridge soon.
Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop, which debuted at 110 Franklin Street in Greenpoint in 2019, is looking to open a second New York City outpost in a five-story mixed-use building at 107 First Avenue in the East Village. Owner Paul Giannore created the concept in homage to the many Brooklyn slice shops he frequented in the ‘60s and ‘70s, from Korner Pizza in Kensington to Pizza Wagen in Bay Ridge. Now the concept boasts locations in major metropolitan areas such as Wicker Park, Chicago and Soul City, Philadelphia. The team is also launching another location in Crescent City, California, soon.
The classic New York-style pizzeria boasts both Neapolitan and Sicialian style pizzas with a select pies including classic cheese, pepperoni and sausage, as well as their speciality pies from their Hellboys with Mike’s hot honey to their Freddy Prinze (named in homage to the ‘90s teen heartthrob from “She’s All That” who went on to become an unlikely cookbook author) with a sesame seed bottom crust, making a nod to Freddy’s Pizzeria of Whitestone, New York.
It also serves a few vegan pies including cheese, pepperoni, Freddy Prinze and their signature Vidalia Square made with vegan parmesan and caramelized Vidalia onion. The menu also boasts just two simple staple desserts, spumoni and lemon ice. Slices range from $4-$5.50, pies range from $29-$35, and desserts are $3.50.
The new location will be formed by Brad Schwarz who anticipates offering 16 tables with 63 seats, as well as one bar with eight seats, and anticipated hours of operation of 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. from Sunday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Thursday through Saturday.
