Neena Dutta, who is behind West Village’s The Brooklyneer, has a new concept on the way to the same space. The 3 & 10 Bar will take over 2,300 square feet of space at 220 West Houston St.

The name of the bar is a reference to immigration law, which includes a rule that can bar people from the U.S. for three or 10 years if they overstay their visas.

“The reason why we wanted to name it this is because in my professional life, I’ve been an immigration lawyer,” Dutta told What Now New York. “Right now is as good a time as any to educate people, so the bar is a nod to people who have come here from other countries and helped to build the hospitality industry.”

Dutta is looking to help revitalize that section of the West Village with this concept after its post-COVID lull.

“We’re a little bit farther downtown from where people walk around in the West Village, and that community took a real dip after COVID. There used to be tons of businesses and agencies there and it’s coming back now, but it took a long time,” Dutta said. “We want to be a space that welcomes all kinds of commuters and residents, and to provide a space for people to get together.”

Customers can expect a “bar within a bar” concept with a redesign of the existing interior that will lighten the space. It will feature approachable decor to form a relaxing and inclusive atmosphere, according to community board filings. Plans call for 10 tables that will seat 36 and one bar that will seat 12.

The space will serve both as a morning coffee spot and as an evening restaurant featuring a cocktail and mocktail program with names that offer nods to immigration law. The proposed menu in the community board filings includes global offerings like empanadas, samosas, savory meat pies, vegetarian lasagna and tacos.

Dutta also shared that she hopes to open up the space for a more family-oriented gathering opportunity on weekends during the morning.

The team is aiming to finish construction by October.
