Tompkins Square Bagels is on the move, with plans to open its first food hall location in the forthcoming Shaver Hall in Amazon’s Hank building on Fifth Avenue in Midtown. It is expected to open early next year in the food hall, according to a release.
The announcement comes only weeks after another location reveal from the Tompkins Square Bagels team in late July, when an Instagram post indicated that they plan to open another spot in Independence Plaza this fall.
Brooklyn native Christopher Pugliese founded the brand in 2011 in the East Village, drawing on his experience working at spots like Bake City Bagels in Gravesend. Since opening his first store in the East Village, Pugliese has added three more locations in East Village, Union Square and Lenox Hill. After the Independence Plaza location opens, the Shaver Hall location will mark the sixth for the brand.
“I grew up in Brooklyn as a first-generation Italian American, and my grandparents used to take me into Manhattan to visit places like Lord & Taylor, just to window shop,” Pugliese said in the release. “Now I take my daughter ice skating at Bryant Park every winter, and it always feels like a living postcard. Fifth Avenue, Bryant Park, Amazon — it’s iconic New York City. I’ve never done a food hall before, but this felt right. I’m still that little kid from Brooklyn who can’t believe I get to be part of something like this.”
Tompkins Square Bagels serves hand-rolled, kettle-boiled and baked bagels. The menu offers breakfast sandwiches and other breakfast items, specialty sandwiches, smoked fish, salads, bakery items like muffins and cookies, and coffee and tea.
