Fun House Pizza in Independence Set to Close
Fun House Pizza and Pub is a local neighborhood staple and is well known for its comfort food menu and lively vibe. The retro-style chain offers a casual and cozy dining experience. The menu features pizzas with loaded cheese and meat, along with local beer options.
The owner announced the closure in a social media post, “After 58 wonderful years of serving Independence, Missouri, it is with a very heavy heart that we announce that Fun House Pizza & Pub will be closing our doors for good on October 18, 2026.”
The owner thanked the community and customers for their support, “You have been our friends, our neighbors, and a part of our family. We have watched families grow, celebrated special occasions, shared countless pizzas, and created memories that we will cherish forever.”
Reason Behind the Closure
In the closure announcement post, the owner shared a very emotional message, “Closing our doors is heartbreaking, but we are incredibly grateful for every single person who has walked through them. You have given us 58 years of memories, friendships, laughter, and love that we will carry in our hearts forever.”
Rushton shared that she recently underwent surgeries and therapy. She further added, “I gave 24-hour care for my son with kidney failure until he needed hospice and then faced a court battle over ownership of the building.”
Rushton hired four different attorneys to fight the building ownership case in court. However, after a year-long fight, the restaurant “suffered yet another loss,” which led to the closure decision.
The closure of the Independence location of Fun House Pizza and Pub marks the end of a longtime local favorite.
