After 29 years of service, Swede Hollow Cafe is preparing to close its doors permanently on August 31. The brick-and-mortar location of the cafe is closing, while the business will continue to host special events, community pop-ups, and catering service.
Swede Hollow Cafe Bids Farewell to St. Paul
St. Paul’s cherished Swede Hollow Cafe was established in 1997 and currently is managed by Chef-owner Shirley Yang, according to a Hoodline report. Over the years, the cafe has built a strong following in the community with its cozy cafe atmosphere and quality food menu. The space includes a lush garden patio, along with indoor and upstairs dining areas.
The cafe is known for focusing on handmade goods prepared daily, including caramel and cinnamon rolls.
In a social media announcement, the cafe team shared the closure news. The team stated that Swede Hollow Cafe, located at 725 7th St E, St Paul, Minnesota, will permanently shut down on August 31.
Talking about the cafe’s journey, the team acknowledged that the past few years have showcased “true grit, strength, survival, and resilience,” and the team said, “we are eternally honored to have been able to share in your light during this time.”
The cafe plans to host a final farewell celebration for its last weekend of service on August 29 and August 30, 2026.
Community Response
Even though the cafe is shutting down, Swede Hollow will continue to serve the Dayton’s Bluff community. Catering will continue, while the business plans to host special events and community pop-ups.
Following the announcement, several regular customers expressed their sadness on social media. One of the customers wrote, “We just heard this news a few days ago and are so sorry that you were closing your brick-and-mortar. We will continue to support you in any way we can.”
In the post, the team thanked the community for its support and said, “You have filled our space with so much love and support for nearly three decades, and we are incredibly grateful for every memory shared here.”
The team said it looks forward to the cafe’s next chapter. The closure of Swede Hollow Cafe marks the end of a longtime breakfast legacy for the community.
