Going forward, it will serve customers their favorite dishes, well-seasoned with nostalgia.
Highlights
- The Ground Round, a classic restaurant chain that had gone bankrupt in the early 2000s, is making a comeback with a location in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
- Branding rights for the restaurant chain were bought by the new owners, who have opened the restaurant.
- The restaurant has so far received very good reviews from diners and is expected to ride the wave to success.
The Ground Round Makes a Comeback with A Lot of the Old Favorites
“The re-imagined and reinvented Ground Round successfully honors its legacy while catering to a modern dining experience.”, the official website for the restaurant says. Located at 271 Grafton St., the new The Ground Round that has reopened is placed not far from the original restaurant that was opened in 1969.
The restaurant chain was famous for American comfort food. Many of the old visitors still remember the popcorn, ice cream, the cartoons playing on the television sets, and the flavors of its classic offerings.
The husband-wife duo, Joseph and Nachi Shea, bought the branding rights for the restaurant and had the soft opening in early April. They are trying to revive the restaurant, of which they and many others have fond memories.
Honoring the legacy of the historic restaurant chain, diners are greeted by a picture of the original restaurant at the entrance. There are also other elements throughout the decor of the restaurant that remind patrons of what once was.
What to Expect at The Ground Round?
Diners who will be visiting The Ground Round at Shrewsbury can expect a mix of the old and the new. The owners have made sure that the new restaurant is not identical to the one that was closed twenty years ago, but also is set to be a neighborhood spot where everyone feels welcome.
Signature Dishes and New Additions Make Way to the Menu
The menu at The Ground Round will offer many of the old favorites, along with newly introduced offerings. Diners have so far enjoyed the steak tips, fish and chips, and classic cheeseburgers. Cinnamon dippers, which were a favorite back in the day, have also returned. Weekly specials like penny a pound will also be returned.
The Community Responds
The communities’ response has been very encouraging for the Shae’s so far. Throughout the soft opening and on the grand opening day, customers have flocked in to reminisce about the good old times and savor the new tastes and the vibes. There have even been people who have been coming in two and three times a day and are regulars already, the owners say.
Operating Hours
The Ground Round is currently open for dinner service, and the timings are as follows:
- Sunday to Thursday: 4 PM to 11 PM
- Friday & Saturday: 4 PM – 1 AM

The Promise for the Future
As the Shaes now possess the branding rights for The Ground Round, they are free to open new locations if they want. There have been no plans for new locations that have been announced so far, but the owners have been getting requests and recommendations for new locations.
For the time being, the new owners are taking it slow and focusing on their first location. If things turn out as well as they expect them to, they may open a new location.
