After more than a decade in Madisonville, Bad Tom Smith Brewery is preparing to close its doors. Located at 5900 Madison Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, the brewery will host a farewell event on Saturday, January 31, marking the end of its run in the community. The team behind the brewery has not shared a reason for the closure.
Bad Tom Smith Brewery to Close After Years Serving the Community
Bad Tom Smith Brewery began in 2013 under its original name, Double Barrel Brewing Company, with its first brew made that year. Founded by Sean Smith, Charles Boucher, and Greg Brown, the brewery opened its original taproom in Cincinnati’s Linwood neighborhood in March 2013.
The brewery later expanded to a second location in Cleveland’s Ohio City in 2017, which closed in 2021, and relocated its main Cincinnati operations to Madisonville in 2019.
In a social media post, the Bad Tom Team announced the closure. The team behind the brewery said, “Bad Tom Smith Brewery will be closing the Madisonville location effective midnight, January 31st.”
They highlighted that the brewery will offer discounted drinks and food to celebrate the last bash. The team behind the brewery invited locals and community members to join them for a final cheer and to say goodbye.
The Bad Tom Team also expressed gratitude for the Madisonville community and wrote, “Thank you to all of our amazing customers for your continued support over the years here in Madisonville. We are truly grateful for the memories, friendships, and community we’ve built together.”
Emotional Tributes on Social Media
Following the closure announcement, many loyal customers shared their sadness and heartbreak on social media.
One of the fans wrote, “I have raved about Bad Tom Smith and have ALWAYS recommended them to any out-of-towners that ask about our Cincy breweries & where to go. It’s a damn shame they’re shutting down here, and I for one am heartbroken over it.”
“So sorry to hear this, Fernando and team. I would love to be there on the 31st to say goodbye,” shared another.
The brewery is best known for its range of beers, including its signature Bad Tom Smith and Breathitt County. Along with that, it serves bourbon and cocktails, like the classic Bad Tom Smith Breathitt County & Cheating the Gallows bourbons. The brewery also offers a wide range of food options to pair with the drinks.
Even though the brewery is winding down, it remains hopeful of returning soon with a new concept for its fans. Bad Tom Smith Brewery’s closure signals the end of a long-running chapter in Madisonville’s culture.
