[Editor’s note: The report mentioned here is from an inspection conducted on February 3 and may not represent the future health inspection status of the food establishment.]
The Orange County health department conducted a health inspection at The Vintage 1979 on February 3. The health permit of the restaurant was suspended due to insufficient hot water in the facility.
The Vintage 1979
- When: February 3, 2026
- Where: 9252 Garden Grove Blvd, Units 28 and 27, Garden Grove, CA 92844
The Vintage 1979 is a 70s-inspired Vietnamese cafe serving cakes, pastries, and drinks. The violations, according to the report, are:
- Not all food handlers did not have a valid California Food Handler Card, which is required for the duration of employment. Multiple handwashing sinks were obstructed with cups and outlet cords in both the front counter and main kitchen areas.
- Empty soap and paper towel dispensers were seen at a secondary kitchen handwash sink.
- Maximum hot water temperatures across all handwash sinks, food prep sinks, mop sink, and 3-compartment sinks measured between 66-70°F, as per the report.
- A small number of fruit flies were observed near the floor sink in the bakery prep room and in the customer area.
- Raw shell eggs were stored above ready-to-eat foods in a two-door refrigeration unit in the dry storage room, the report mentioned.
- Black spotting was observed on the deflector panel inside the ice machine, requiring cleaning. Ice scoop handles were stored directly in the ice rather than positioned handle-up or stored separately in a clean container.
- Multi-use utensils were stored inside a handwashing sink in the barista prep area, which can lead to contamination.

- Although sanitizer buckets were present, multi-use wiping cloths were observed stored outside of the sanitizer solution between uses.
- A drain line extended below the rim of a floor sink in the bakery section, lacking the required one-inch air gap. The report also noted that there was a leak at the hot water handle of the secondary kitchen’s three-compartment sink, which must be repaired.
- Exterior entrance doors were observed propped open when not in use, increasing the risk of vermin entry. Clutter was also noted in dry storage areas near the water heater room and across the front counter, creating potential harborage conditions for pests.
A detailed report is available online.
Follow-up Inspection

According to the report, the restaurant can contact the health department for a reinspection once it has corrected the violations.
