During a recent inspection, the agency ordered I Can Barbecue Korean Grill to temporarily close due to multiple violations. Key violations included evidence of rodent activity and other sanitation issues.

The Irvine-based spot is known for Korean barbecue favorites like pork belly, bulgogi, and beef brisket. In its routine inspection on June 30, the Orange County Health Care Agency identified multiple food code violations at the eatery. Inspectors ordered temporary shut down the restaurant due to the severity of the violations.

Inspection Findings

The on-site inspectors listed multiple handwashing violations in their detailed report for I Can Barbecue Korean Grill. Inspectors cited missing soap, paper towels, and poorly maintained dispensers at handwashing stations.

Inspectors also noted signs of rodent activity at the restaurant. They observed rodent droppings in the kitchen and food storage areas. They also found a dead insect beneath the restaurant’s three-compartment sink.

Staff used a pallet as shelving in the back kitchen, a violation of approved storage practices. Inspectors advised staff to ensure all surfaces are smooth, durable, and easy to clean. They asked the Korean eatery’s staff to discontinue reuse of unapproved containers as well.

At the time of inspection, the back kitchen door was open, enabling harborage of insects and animals. The violation was corrected on-site during the inspection.

Inspectors also noted structural issues throughout the restaurant, including damaged flooring and missing ceiling panels. They found a missing ceiling panel and damaged floor tiles. The inspectors at I Can Barbecue Korean Grill added that the floor under the fryers had debris.

The restaurant addressed some of the violations during the inspection, but others remain unresolved. However, many more issues still need to be addressed. The restaurant will need to correct the remaining violations to pass re-inspection.
