Chili Chutney offers Afghan cuisine and has served the Lake Forest community for several years. However, a complaint was registered against the restaurant, which led to a health inspection.

The Orange County Health Care Agency received a complaint (CO164412) that read, “While eating dinner at the table, a cockroach came down the faux column they were sitting next to.”

On-site inspectors found evidence of cockroach activity throughout the facility. They found live cockroach activity on the floor and wall behind the low-temperature dish machine. Dead cockroaches were found in the same area, including the floor drain under the sink and a 2-door upright cooler. Nymphs were found near the entrance and on the floor of the small dry storage room.

Inspectors also noted that the facility required vermin-proofing, as they observed a gap greater than ¼ inch in several areas. A detailed health report of Chili Chutney’s inspection is available online.

Follow-Up Inspection

The restaurant will only be allowed to reopen once cockroach activity has been eliminated. Until then, the facility is to remain closed. In the meantime, the facility must eliminate all cockroach activity and undergo a thorough cleaning and sanitization.

The re-inspection will be held on June 20, 2025. The Chili Chutney management can appeal in court to oppose the closure within the next 15 days.
