Located in the heart of Orange County, Pur Bowls has been delighting residents and visitors with its delectable range of acai dishes. Menu highlights include thoughtfully created bowls like Island Bowl, Green Goodness Bowl, Amazon Bowl, and Tropical Bowl.
Pur Bowls was asked to close temporarily as it could not clear the inspection round for Orange County food facilities this Tuesday. The Orange County Health Care Agency identified many minor and major health violations at the acai bowl shop.
What Went Wrong for Pur Bowls?
Health inspectors came across multiple food safety violations at Pur Bowls during their routine inspection test on April 1. The California Food Handler Card was not there on the premises of Pur Bowls. Other than this, the sink, which was used for handwashing, had been blocked by a plastic container.
The inspection report by the Orange County Health Care Agency then noted the problem of improper hot water supply. It was this issue that made the agency order the food facility to close. Orange County regulations require a water temperature of 120°F, but inspectors found Pur Bowls’ water supply at 68°F.
Health inspectors also found food debris in the reach-in freezer and ice accumulation in the walk-in freezer at Pur Bowls. The report further stated that an old flat-top grill was kept on the side of the ice machine, which affected its functioning.
The health inspectors also found holes in the ceiling right above Pur Bowls’s water heater, which might allow vermin to enter.
After these areas, the Orange County Health Care Agency threw light on the issue of cleanliness at Pur Bowls. As per the inspection report, the floor underneath tables and the ice machine at the acai shop were loaded with food debris.
The Orange County Health Care Agency has instructed Pur Bowls to be prepared with corrective actions before its reinspection on April 3. Pur Bowls has 15 days to request a hearing, after which the right will be considered waived.
