Several family-owned small businesses are found around Orange County. Among them is Botana Express in Santa Ana, which is a part of the local dining. But a recent inspection discovered several health code violations at this family-owned restaurant.
The inspection report notes the absence of a Food Manager Certificate at the time of the inspection. It then points out that the restaurant’s handwashing facility was inadequate and inaccessible.
The report also states several sanitation violations. Black residue was found around the ice chute in the ice machine. There was also trash, debris, and food accumulated in several areas around the facility.
The major violation was the sewage wastewater overflow. The drainage of the handwash sink, the food prep sink, and the 3-compartment sink was all directed to a floor sink. The floor sink was completely clogged, resulting in wastewater overflowing around the facility. The floor sink below the food prep sink, the unused soda machine, and the floor drain next to the ice machine is where the water overflowed. A detailed health report on the recent inspection of Botana Express is available online.
Follow-Up Inspection
The management at Botana Express needs to resolve all the violations mentioned in the inspection report. Upon correcting the violations, they can request a reinspection of the restaurant before it can reopen for business. The management also has the right to request a hearing and oppose the decision within 15 days.
Maintaining public health is a priority. The health inspection ensures that no risks arise in food facilities throughout the area.
