A routine inspection report from the Orange County Health Department indicates that Michael’s Kitchen was ordered to close temporarily following the discovery of a pest infestation. The official health inspection report notes that a follow-up inspection will be conducted to verify corrective measures.

Michael’s Kitchen in Westminster underwent a routine inspection that revealed multiple health code violations. According to the inspection report, the following violations were noted:
- The hand sink in the employee restroom was filled with old soda cans.
- Two heavily used/damaged pots had a large accumulation of old food debris and residue. They were stored in front of the 2-comp sink and need to be washed, rinsed, and sanitized thoroughly.
- Live and dead cockroaches were found throughout the facility. There were live cockroaches on the floor and behind the door of the chemical storage area. There were dead cockroaches under the 2-comp sink and on the cook’s line’s catcher plates inside the stove tops.
- There were dead adult cockroaches with egg cases inside an unwashed pot on the 2-comp sink’s left drainboard. They were also on the floor in the corner, around the base of the water heater, behind the door of the chemical storage area, underneath a ladder, and next to the water heater’s wooden housing.
- Cockroach egg cases were found on the floor drain under the 2-comp sink, behind the door of the chemical storage area, and on the floor of the dry storage area, next to the water heater.
- Several uncovered food items were found inside the one-door reach-in cooler, according to the report.
- A can of unapproved household insecticide was on the chemical storage shelf.
- Several squeeze bottles that were unlabeled were stored throughout the front kitchen area.
- There was a heavy accumulation of grease and old food debris in several areas of the facility. This includes the middle shelves and catcher trays built into the store and cooking equipment. In the cook’s line, it was on the side surfaces between the cooking equipment.
- The report instructed management to clear items not essential to operations. All clean and soiled linen needs to be properly stored. Also, utensils and equipment must be handled and stored properly.
- There is a missing light shield for the wall-mounted fluorescent light bulb in the back kitchen area.
- There were many multi-use wiping cloths stored outside of the buckets throughout the front and back kitchen areas. Wiping cloths must be stored in an approved sanitizer solution between uses.
- There was a leak on the faucet of the 2-compartment sink and mop sink. The cold-water handle in the handwash sink for the employee restroom was inoperable.
- The employee restroom door was not self-closing.
- The facility requires pest-proofing, according to the report. The gaps and crevices around the wooden cover/housing of the water heater need to be sealed. The front door was propped open during the inspection, which needs to be closed properly.
- Employee’s personal belongings were inside the two-door wall-mounted refrigerator, next to the food meant to be served.
- A wet mop was inside the mop bucket next to the employee restroom, instead of being inverted or hung for drying.

Follow-Up Inspection

The facility was ordered to close due to an imminent health hazard. The restaurant’s management is required to address the issues before a follow-up inspection. The facility must be cleaned, sanitized, and treated for pests before the next reinspection. According to the report, management may request a hearing within 15 days of the inspection.
