The Los Angeles-based Nashville hot chicken concept, Angry Chickz, will make its long-awaited Orange County debut in the former home of BurgerIM at Aliso Viejo Town Center around July of this year, according to CEO David Mkhitaryan.
“Ever since we started back in 2018, Orange County’s always been on my mind, one of the main counties I want to be in,” Mkhitaryan tells What Now OC, “but it just didn’t work out in the early days…When this opportunity came, the broker presented me with this space in Aliso Viejo and I just jumped on it.”
Although hot chicken has exploded in popularity over the past couple of years, Mkhitaryan was one of the first entrepreneurs to bring the popular southern dish to Los Angeles.
In the five years since opening that flagship location out of a 900-square-foot storefront in East Hollywood, Mkhitaryan has grown the company to some 20 locations as far north as Sacramento and even into Las Vegas.
Angry Chickz’ menu features tenders and sliders prepared with one of six heat levels including Country – or no heat – Mild, Medium, Hot, X-Hot, and the waiver-necessitating Angry. Meanwhile, folks can also choose from a selection of sides such as mac & cheese, coleslaw, and rice, or the fully loaded Angry Fries, Angry Mac, and Hangry Fix.
“We can’t wait to be a part of the community,” says Mkhitaryan. “We’re definitely going to put a few more locations after this one, and then we’re going to work our way down to San Diego County as well, after that.”
