Rainbow Cone, a beloved Chicago institution for nearly a century, is making its way to Southern California, according to Eater. A franchisee has signed on to open a store of the chain at 9527 Valley View Street in Cypress.
Founded in 1926, the ice cream shop is famous for its distinctive five-flavor cone that layers chocolate, strawberry, pistachio, orange sherbet, and vanilla with cherries and walnuts. The bright and colorful desserts are a fun, Instagram-worthy treat.
The Cypress store is the first of three planned Southern California locations, and will open later this year. Anne Hsiung, franchisee, tells What Now OC the shop is currently in the permitting process and she hopes to welcome customers by winter.
Hsiung, a local entrepreneur and former nurse, grew up in Chicago and wanted to open a family business to pass on to future generations. The store will feature a 1,000-square-foot space with an outdoor patio, offering a pleasant spot for customers to enjoy their ice cream under tables and umbrellas.
“It was the perfect opportunity when I saw the potential in Rainbow Cone, being able to franchise and bring a little slice of Chicago out to California,” she said.
