Arriving on 800 E Whittier Blvd, the group that owns El Cholo is opening an Italian restaurant.
Owner Brendon Salisbury has shared that Il Gatto, which translates to “the cat” in Italian, is a family venture with roots in an earlier establishment.
His father, Ron Salisbury, had founded a restaurant named The Cat & the Custard Cup back in approximately 1979, which unfortunately closed its doors during the pandemic. In April, the family decided to reimagine the former space into a new Italian eatery.
To bring this vision to life, they enlisted the partnership of Antonio Orlando to develop the forthcoming spot, who had previously worked with them as the opening chef for Louie’s By The Bay in Newport Beach in 2018-2019.
Salisbury told What Now Orange County, “Most of the construction is complete now and we are in the finishing touches stage to hopefully have the restaurant open to the public in the next few weeks. We plan to invite our guests next door at El Cholo to come give us a try once our doors open.”
With the opening in sight, Il Gatto is gearing up to welcome guests to its Italian offerings.
