A new kind of nightlife experience is on its way to Downtown Santa Ana. Sonder, a listening bar and cocktail lounge, is in the works at 301 N. Spurgeon St., according to liquor licensing records from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The company’s social media pages have recently offered teasers of what’s to come, showing sneak peeks of deep red tones and wood paneling. Hiring is underway, with the business looking for bartenders, servers, cooks, prep staff, and DJs. There will be live sets and an extensive record collection.

“Sonder is a space where music sets the foundation for genuine connection. Our carefully curated vinyl collection flows through an intimate, modern setting designed to encourage both conversation and contemplation. As evening unfolds, the experience deepens with thoughtfully crafted cocktails and inspired small plates, each element working in harmony to create an atmosphere where stories naturally emerge,” the brand writes.

The ABC documents state a temporary permit was issued for the business on May 22, lasting through September 18. Hyrax Hospitality Inc. is listed as the entity behind the endeavor, with Lamson Nguyen as an officer. Nguyen is a seasoned entrepreneur who also owns next door’s Kaizen Shabu.
