Chinese barbecue spot Gui BBQ is working towards reopening after a months-long closure due to fire damage and health code violations. County records show the eatery’s Irvine outpost, at 4860 Irvine Blvd Ste 101, will undergo work so it can welcome patrons again.
Plans filed with the Orange County Health Care Agency were initially submitted on September 9, but they were marked as “unable to be approved” the following week. Revised plans were received on November 21 and haven’t been reviewed yet.
It all started when What Now OC reported in August that the restaurant experienced an electrical fire and was subsequently flagged for several safety and sanitation concerns. The company’s Instagram now says it is closed for “back kitchen renovation”.
Gui BBQ is known for its skewers, hot pots, and grilled specialties. Popular menu items include spicy crawfish, stir-fried pork intestine, spicy crabs, and Irvine-style grilled fish, salads, and noodles, alongside skewers ranging from Chinese sausage and pork belly to jumbo shrimp and beef tongue. The restaurant also serves cocktails.
