After years of waiting, visitors to the Great Park and the thousands of residents living around it could soon have a new retail and food center as Irvine city leaders look to partner with Dan Almquist of Frontier Real Estate Investments to develop concepts inside of two abandoned aircraft hangars.

Almquist is responsible for the incoming River Street Marketplace in San Juan Capistrano and Rodeo 72 in Whittier, as well as Stanton’s Rodeo 39 and Ontario Ranch’s Rodeo X. All four concepts house an array of unique eateries and upscale retail destinations.

According to a report submitted to the city council, “The path between the hangars … would be lined by a series of restaurants and retail spaces. Almquist proposes to operate the food, beverage, and retail spaces located on City-owned property in tandem with the grocery-anchored retail center on FivePoint property.”

Precise plans on what food and beverage options will actually make it into the park are still unclear, says Voice of OC, who earlier reported the news.
