Downtown Laguna Beach is about to gain a new organic bakery and deli. Laguna Beach Planning Commissioners recently approved a Conditional Use Permit for Rye Goods to take over the former Grove on Forest coffeehouse space at the Lumberyard Mall on 384 Forest Ave.
Rye Goods is a sourdough breads and pastries bakery founded by pastry chef Sara Lezama in 2018. Based in Newport Beach, the bakery works with small farm west coast heritage grains, highlighting the use of seasonal local fruits and vegetables to indicate the time of the year.
The business is named for their 18-year-old rye sourdough culture, named Wynona Ryeder, that is used to make all their doughs. Rye Goods started out in Lezama’s garage before upgrading to a commercial kitchen and eventually, a brick-and-mortar space at Lido Marina Village.
In addition to a variety of sourdough breads and pastries, Rye Goods also serves as a deli with sandwiches, wraps, pastas, soups, and more, plus beer and wine service. Ahead of the new Laguna Beach location, they will open a second store in Tustin.
What Now Orange County has reached out to representatives for Rye Goods for comment, so we will update if we hear back. Until then, visit www.ryegoods.com.
