Newport Beach will soon have a new destination for chef-y, ingredient forward pizzas. According to an alcohol license filled with the state, Skal Pizza is heading to 3400 Via Oporto #104, Lido island.

While What Now Orange County was not able to obtain an exact opening date for the concept, we do know that Skal is the work of chef/owner Helene Henderson, who is best known as the founder and driving force behind Malibu Farm.

Originally a backyard business that comprised a mix of cooking classes and farm dinners that Henderson ran out of her backyard, Malibu Farm has rapidly expanded and now includes both cafe and sit-down restaurant concepts spread across Malibu, Newport Beach, Tiburon, Lanai, New York, and Tokyo.

Diners can expect the environmentally conscious farm-to-table ethos of Malibu Farm to extend to Skal Pizza, which will be a new concept for the brand. While it remains to be seen if the doughs will be naturally leavened or boast a selection of freshly milled flours; if they will be blistered with Neapolitan char or baked more low-and slow, like the pies Pizzeria Mozza just down the road, one can expect the offerings to be fresh, vibrant, and creative.
