A brand-new Sonic Drive-In is “coming soon” to San Bernardino, thanks to a formidable franchise group that owns a number of locations across SoCal. According to the operator’s website, plans are in motion to build a quick-service restaurant at 701 5th St.
Socal Drive-Ins, a family-owned franchise venture led by Clinton, Devon, and Richard Wesselink, is behind the new store. Clinton told What Now CO that buildout is underway and it is expected to open its doors in September. The location will employ around 75 team members.
The restaurant is part of the city’s ambitious 5th Street Gateway Project, where several eateries have signed on as tenants, Inland Wire states. 7-Eleven, Starbucks, and Del Taco have recently opened, and an Ono Hawaiian BBQ and Chipotle are under construction as well.
“We are very excited to bring Sonic Drive-In to San Bernardino,” said Richard Wesselink. “We feel [this location is] well-positioned, allowing for us to bring Sonic’s huge menu of burgers, hot dogs, shakes, and slushes to the community in a variety of ordering methods—from traditional drive-through to our unique stall service by Carhop!”
