Sweetgreen, the LA-based fast-casual restaurant that prides itself on serving “fresh, plant-forward, earth-friendly food,” is set to join Huntington Beach’s 5 Points Plaza shopping center at 18685 Main St.

“Sweetgreen, the mission-driven restaurant brand serving healthy food at scale, has confirmed they have signed a lease to open a location in Huntington Beach at 18685-7 Main St, Suite 107,” a representative of the company tells What Now Orange County by email.

“Founded in 2007, sweetgreen passionately believes that real food should be convenient and accessible to everyone. Every day, across its over 200 restaurants, their team members create plant-forward, seasonal, and earth-friendly meals from fresh ingredients and produce that prioritizes organic, regenerative, and local sourcing. Sweetgreen’s strong food ethos and investment in local communities have enabled them to grow into a national brand with a mission to build healthier communities by connecting people to real food,” the statement goes on to say, adding, “Additional details for the new Huntington Beach store will be announced in the coming year.”

Despite having upwards of 25 locations all over Los Angeles, Huntington Beach – as well as an outpost that’s slated to open in Riverside – will mark the brand’s entry into Orange County.

Sweetgreen was officially launched in 2007 in Washington DC by three recent college graduates who lamented the dichotomy between “slow, expensive, and fresh” or “fast, cheap, and unhealthy” food options around town. As such, the trio – Jonathan Neman, Nathaniel Ru, and Nicolas Jammet – “saw an opportunity to create a business where quality was never sacrificed for convenience,” according to the company’s website

The result is a menu that includes salads such as the Super Green Goddess, Guacamole Greens, and Kale Caesar, warm bowls like a Chicken Pesto Parm, Crispy Rice Bowl, and Fish Taco, as well as local items like a Blackened Catfish Bowl out of Atlanta, Houston’s Garlic Chili Shrimp Bowl, and the Miami-inspired Citrus Shrimp and Avocado.
