Victorville will be welcoming a new restaurant with Midwest flavors, according to VNVG. An eatery coined Walt’s Frozen Custard and Hot Chicken is slated to open at 15068 Bear Valley Road, though customers will have to wait until spring of next year to try it.
The city’s Planning Commission unanimously approved the project last month. Renderings show that Steeno Design Studio has been enlisted to help with the project, which involves the construction of a 2,800-square-foot indoor dining area, a 2,079-square-foot outdoor patio, a dual-lane drive-thru, and parking for 73 vehicles.
Yochan Hwang, owner of the concept, told What Now OC he had originally planned to build a gas station at the site but pivoted to a fast-casual eatery. Diners can expect a simple menu of Midwest comfort foods, like crunchy tenders and sandwiches, and desserts including sundaes, concretes, cones, malts, and floats.
Plans were approved a few weeks ago, and a groundbreaking ceremony will happen in about six months. Maps show the site is just west of the existing Dunkin’ Donuts, near the 15 Freeway, in an area that has experienced a boom in commercial development over the years.
Hwang’s family immigrated from South Korea to Canada when he was nine. He gets his entrepreneurial drive from watching them push through challenges to start a business in a foreign country.
“I don’t take on this responsibility for financial rewards. I want to give people a really great experience. I want to bring good feelings back into fast food. It’s about serving the best food you can create, and at the same time not hindering their wallets,” he said.
