Woody’s Diner, a Southern California–based all-American diner with a 50’s surf theme, is working to open a new location in Newport Beach at 2900 Newport Boulevard.
The company’s eighth location is expected to open in the former home of Matahari Cafe, Restaurant Abe, and Zen Sushi, according to a recent liquor license application. While no exact opening date has been announced, the new location will be owned and operated by Erik and Cristy Johnson. Customers can expect Woody’s classic menu, featuring burgers, breakfast items, and a nostalgic diner atmosphere.
Woody’s Diner first opened in Huntington Beach in 1987 and has expanded to seven locations along the Southern California coastline, including Sunset Beach, Laguna Hills, Orange, Yorba Linda, and two Huntington Beach sites. Each location offers indoor and outdoor seating, full service or beer and wine, and a family-friendly environment that has kept customers returning for more than three decades.
The Newport Beach site will continue the brand’s signature 50’s surf theme, complete with tabletop jukeboxes and retro decor. This will be an excellent landing space for Woody’s, bringing its established presence to a busy stretch of Newport Boulevard while maintaining the nostalgic vibe that defines the chain.
Menus at Woody’s Diner vary by location but consistently feature all-American classics, including burgers, breakfast plates, sandwiches, and sides. Weekly specials across other locations include Taco Tuesday, Pasta Night, Burger Night, and Fish & Chips Friday. The Newport Beach location is expected to carry a similar lineup with breakfast and lunch served daily.
With over 30 years in operation, Woody’s Diner has built a reputation for casual, family-oriented dining that blends nostalgia with approachable, made-to-order meals. The addition of Newport Beach will mark another step in the brand’s ongoing expansion along the Southern California coast.
