Zinc Cafe & Market, which you might have been to at Laguna Beach, Corona Del Mar, or the L.A. Arts District, is working on opening two new locations. Following the soon to open West Hollywood outpost, Zinc Cafe & Market will shift focus towards the city of Orange where they will move into 195 S. Glassell St.
Inspired by the coffee shops and restaurants while studying landscape architecture at UC Berkeley, owner John Secretan pivoted from the world of landscaping to open his own cafe in Laguna Beach. In 1988, where specialty coffee roasting had not yet made a splash like it had in the Bay Area at the time, Secretan opened a small cafe that eventually grew into what it is today.
Zinc Cafe & Market is meant to be a space where people would want to gather, “unpretentious and comfortable, but still have an urban vibe with high-quality food and really good coffee,” according to a 2006 profile in the LA Times. With his mother Rosemary creating recipes for the cafe, the menu reflects the Secretan family’s vegetarian lifestyle, yet the items are so varied and flavorful that “few people even notice.”
In addition to sit-down brunch and dinner at some locations, Zinc Cafe & Market offers packaged to-go items, plus well-curated goods for the home and the kitchen. The Orange location is scheduled to open in Spring 2023.
