The reimagining of the Renaissance Daytona Beach Oceanfront Hotel has transformed a popular yet ageing beachfront property into a contemporary, secluded, luxury resort destination. Located a few blocks from the Ocean Center Convention Center and minutes from the Daytona Beach Speedway, this Cooper Carry designed 190-key property provides multiple venues for both out of town visitors and residents who are seeking a unique experience in this historic beach town.
Upon entering the resort grounds, guests are greeted by an angled porte-cochere, folding to the ground, providing seclusion from Florida A1A. Inspired by tropical open-air lobbies, this space directs the guests from the arrival, through an outdoor bar, pool, and event space, culminating in panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Bob Neal, a Principal in Cooper Carry’s Hospitality Studio, described the hotel design as a simple idea in a statement: “We wanted the guest to immediately feel as if they had arrived someplace unique, and unexpected, undeniably relating to its location. This was accomplished by horizontally extruding a shimmering porte-cochere through the ground plane, physically connecting guests into the resort experience. It’s an exciting arrival. It grabs your imagination and holds it until you are well within the property.”
The pool and lounging areas, influenced by Mediterranean resorts, offers multiple in-pool experiences, cabanas, lounging and beach access, set amongst a grove of palm and olive trees. Situated next to the resort pool, a premier seafood restaurant designed by award-winning Concentrics Restaurants, offers an upscale menu to guests. Indoor and all-season outdoor terrace dining allow guests to dine and relax within a resort environment.
“We were inspired by the desire to create an urban resort, recognizing that guests should feel isolated from the activities of the street and lulled by the romance of the place,” said T.Jack Bagby, a Principal in the Hospitality Studio. “We worked to inwardly reinforce this notion at every opportunity.”
The resort includes an event and wedding lawn overlooking the beach and a second-floor banquet ballroom with expansive floor-to-ceiling ocean views. In addition, the grounds include a beach-side activity lawn and fire pits.
The original guestroom tower’s interior was completely redesigned. Within the guestrooms are local touches, including Floridian influenced furnishings and private balconies with ocean views, always seeking to maximize the guest’s connection to place.
