Jersey Mike’s is coming to The Villages.

The sub shop, known for offering authentic New Jersey-style sub sandwiches, is opening up at a new shopping center in Middleton, the family area of The Villages. The center, located close to The Villages Charter School campus, will be anchored by a 52,000 square-foot Publix, according to villages-news.com. The center is still under construction, and no opening date has been announced.

Local community site, thevillages.com, featured the restaurant’s franchisees Todd Quinzi and Brian Kenny talking about the upcoming venture, where they expressed their excitement over the new location. When it does open, customers can expect delicious subs made on freshly baked bread using quality ingredients like Certified Angus beef and antibiotic-free pork products.

Jersey Mike’s is deeply rooted in the state for which it’s named. In 1956, Michael Ingravallo opened a sub shop on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant, a town on the famed Jersey Shore. The shop became popular with beachgoers who wanted a snack before or after their fun in the sun. In 1975, a then-17-year-old Peter Cancro purchased the sandwich shop with a loan from his football coach. The young-buy-savvy sandwich fan renamed it Jersey Mike’s. Today, Jersey Mike’s is loved well beyond the Jersey Shore, with more than 4,000 locations open and under development.
