The locally owned and operated comfort food restaurant Big Daddy J’s Five Great Things will soon be opening in Cocoa Beach, according to a recent filing with the State of Florida. The restaurant will be located at 3850 N Atlantic Avenue, near eateries such as IHOP and McDonald’s.

“It used to be a pizza place called New York Pizza Place and now it’ll be Big Daddy J’s Five Great Things,” Co-Owner James Bennett tells What Now Orlando. “We will serve comfort food with a twist, comfort style food that’s prepared in some pretty unique ways.”

Coming from Colorado, Mr. Bennett and his son Jesse, who has been in the restaurant business for over 20 years, are excited to finally open their first restaurant on the Florida coast.

“Originally we looked at Melbourne. My son, a Colorado kid, had spent 17 years in Key West, had the Florida experience. He was looking for a place to have a home, and as we were going around Melbourne, we found an opportunity in Merritt Island,” Mr. Bennett explains.

“But we got to Cocoa Beach when this restaurant went up in the papers, looking for someone to lease the space. We were looking for a surfer, laid-back style and feel, and we’re right across the street from Ron John’s.”

Mr. Bennett made it a point to keep the menu’s details a secret but, in any case, readers and partners can expect a creative kitchen led by two enthusiastic owners coming to Cocoa Beach in the coming months.
