City of Goodyear has shared plans for a brand new Chipotle Mexican Grill at the Canyon Trails Towne Center. It will be built on the southeast corner of South Cotton Lane and Canyon Trails Boulevard on an undeveloped plot that will be built into a future mixed use addition to the shopping center.
Plans for this new Chipotle store indicate construction of a 2,337-square foot space with an additional 500-square foot patio. A rendering of the building shows a clean and modern exterior, with what appears to be a “Chipotlane” window.
Photos of “Chipotlane” windows led many customers to believe that Chipotle would soon be opening drive-thrus across the country. This, however, has been debunked. Indeed, many new Chipotle stores are built with service windows, but these are to be used solely for pick-up orders.
There are no illuminated menu boards or speakerphones in a “Chipotlane.” The idea is that customers will place a mobile order ahead of time and drive up to the window for the handoff. This not only minimizes time spent in the drive-up lane, but there will also be no need to build additional signage and it will reduce the queue of cars that form around the restaurant, which is ultimately the goal.
“You don’t want this to become a traffic nuisance within the shopping center, or spill out onto the road. I understand all of that. But I think if it’s done well, if it’s planned properly, it only creates more convenience for your constituents,” Chipotle Chief Development Officer Tabassum Zalotrawala tells QSR Magazine.
If Goodyear is due for a “Chipotlane,” it will certainly begin the shift in terms of how companies in the area evolve their businesses to be more efficient. No opening date has been announced for this new location.
