Chubby Skewers, the Northeastern Chinese barbecue restaurant from Chubby Group, is off to a strong start at its first Arizona location in Mesa at 1955 W. Guadalupe Rd, Suite 105.
Previously, What Now Phoenix reported that the restaurant was preparing to take over the former BBQ House near Guadalupe and Dobson Roads. Following its successful launch, the company has confirmed that it is actively exploring additional opportunities in the Phoenix area, including plans to introduce its popular hot pot concept, Chubby Cattle, to the Valley. While no official timeline or addresses have been announced, representatives tell What Now Phoenix that they are currently evaluating sites and will provide updates once a location is finalized.
Chubby Group is an international restaurant company with a portfolio of innovative dining concepts that focus on immersive, high-quality food experiences. In addition to Chubby Skewers and Chubby Cattle, the group also operates upscale brands like X Pot, which offers a theatrical hot pot experience with robotic service and multi-sensory presentations, and Niku X, a high-end Japanese yakiniku restaurant. Each concept is designed to deliver a distinct and engaging dining experience rooted in Asian culinary traditions.
Chubby Skewers specializes in Northeastern-style Chinese barbecue, known for its skewered meats and vegetables grilled over charcoal. Customers can expect a casual, social setting with interactive, self-service grilling and a menu featuring skewers of lamb, chicken, beef, seafood, and tofu, alongside traditional sides and street snacks. Chubby Cattle, by contrast, is a modern hot pot concept that features individual induction cooktops, conveyor belt service, and premium ingredients, including wagyu beef, fresh seafood, and handmade noodles. The brand emphasizes freshness, quality, and an elevated take on the traditional hot pot experience.
As the company continues to grow, Phoenix is now firmly on its radar for future development. If Chubby Cattle or other sister brands land in the region, they’ll build on the momentum already generated by Chubby Skewers’ early success in Mesa.
