Kura Revolving Sushi will join eateries like Thai Chili 2 Go, Panera Bread, and In-N-Out Burger when it sets up shop in Camelback Colonnade, the shopping plaza on E Camelback Road in Phoenix. The popular sushi restaurant with over 450 locations in Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S. will open in the space that last housed Smashburger.
When the Camelback location opens, it will be the Valley’s second Kura Sushi Spot, following the eater’s Chandler location. According to a liquor license application, the new shop, which is listed as “coming soon” on Kura’s website, is 3,066 square-feet in size.
Kura Sushi serves over 140 authentic Japanese dishes, which are ferried to guests on the brand’s signature conveyor belts. The Revolving Sushi Bar is Kura’s primary belt, which circulates plates through the restaurant for your selection. The plates are protected by ventilated lids and monitored by plate-tracking technology that keeps tabs of how long each item has been in circulation. Even better, the express belt, known by insiders as the “sushi highway,” transports your choice items directly to you so you don’t have to wait around for the plates to reach you via the primary belt.
Kura uses a specialty rice blend of organic rice seasoned with vinegar and kelp extract. The dashi is always prepared in-house, and Kura sources wasabi and other ingredients directly from Japan.
No word yet on when the second Valley-area store will open, so you’ll want to follow Kura Sushi on social media for the details.
