Magdaleña, a Latin-American wood-fired kitchen, is opening at Goodyear’s GSQ Civic and Cultural district.
The restaurant, by Omar Alvarez, executive chef Jason Alford and bar manager Gilles Kolakowski, will open late May at 1900 North Civic Square.
Chef Alford, known for his work at Pa’La, will expand on his years of live-fire culinary skills with a new Latin-American-inspired menu that focuses on premium meats, fresh seafood, and vegetable-forward dishes made for sharing. “This menu tells a different cultural story. With Latin American flavors at the center, we’re able to broaden our flavor profile while still relying on the wood-fire techniques that define our cooking. Fire is the oldest form of cooking, and there’s something powerful about connecting every dish back to that source, ” Alford notes in a press release.
The food will be paired with a wine list curated by Kolakowski, who will focus exclusively on producers from Latin America. Cocktails will also feature spirits sourced exclusively from Latin American countries.
The dining room is designed by Phoenix-based House of Form and blends floral influences with natural marble surfaces, velvet lighting fixtures, and a chef’s counter so guests can view all the action. The restaurant is also offering a free drink when it opens to future guests who sign up for an invitation to its grand opening. Register at magdalenakitchen.com.
