Earlier today the owners of Huss Brewing finalized the paperwork for what will be a revamped Papago Brewing Company opening in the recently-shuttered Brass Tap at Mesa Riverview early next year, according to co-owner, Leah Huss.

Huss had been deeply involved with Papago – a retail shop and brewery supply store that opened in 2001 – as both a co-owner and general manager. In 2016, she and husband Jeff Huss acquired the name, bringing the whole operation under the Huss Brewing brand. However, after keeping the shop up and running for about a year, the pair decided to close it.

“So ever since then, it was one of those things that I felt like when I was ready, I wanted to revisit a version of it, but also make it very new and modern,” Huss tells What Now Phoenix.

Huss goes on to say, “the reality of it is that the difference between 2001 and 2023 when we get open, is clearly a huge chunk of time. So it will be different, and basically, we just want to honor the brand and give it a new and modern twist, while still paying homage to it.”

When open, Papago 2.0 will feature 60 taps for on-site drinking, including classics such as the Orange Blossom Ale, Elsie’s Milk Stout, and Homage IPA, as well as a to-go selection of bottled and canned beer. Likewise, there are plans to bring in a kitchen down the line.
