There’s good news and bad news in the Phoenix taco scene.

First the bad news: the 40th Street and Camelback Road location of Gadzooks Tacos, which has been serving the Arcadia community since 2017, has closed. This is the only Gadzooks location that has closed, according to its Instagram page.

The good news is that Gadzooks owners, Aaron Pool and his brother Jared Pool, are opening Poolboy Taco in the same location.  An Instagram post on Poolboy Taco’s page, describes the new shop as, “Featuring pastel neons, terrazzo floors, and tacos with instant local status”, adding that, “Poolboy Taco brings a poolside-inspired, elevated quick-service concept to life, inside design-forward retro space complete with frozen cocktails, carrot cake, and a menu built around the taco that started it all”.

The restaurant, located at 4031 E. Camelback Road in Arcadia, is expected to have a quick turnaround, opening some time in December.

The menu will offer tacos made with hand-pressed tortillas, along with a selection of cakes, enchiladas, kids’ items and more. Guests can pair their meal with beer, wine, and margaritas. The signature Poolboy taco will be featured: a 50/50 (corn and flour) tortilla topped with roasted tomatillo chicken, sweet and spicy cornbread, honey vinaigrette slaw, jalapeno ranch, and cotija cheese.
