Sonora Cocina Express is due to open in Tempe this summer. The new Mexican restaurant is coming soon to 710 W. Elliot Road at the intersection with Kyrene Road. Owner Aurea Jimenez, who recently applied for the restaurant’s liquor license, tells What Now Phoenix that she expects to open this summer.
An offshoot of Carniceria Sonora on 48th Street, Sonora Cocina Express will have all the classic Sonora-influenced Mexican favorites such as tacos, burritos, tortas and more. If you’ve been to Carniceria Sonora, then you might have also tried Frutilokos, where they serve Raspados, Fresas con Crema, TostiloKos, plus other delicious sweet and spicy treats.
Jimenez tells us that Sonora Cocina Express will also carry these desserts, so after your meal you can enjoy a ManGoLoKo, Champurrado, and other sweets that you might be craving. Until Sonora Cocina Express opens, you can follow @SonoraCocinaEx on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
