The owners of Tacos Chiwas are nowhere close to slowing down and are getting ready to introduce the concept at the Sky Harbor International Airport at 3400 Sky Harbor Boulevard.
The company’s newest location is set to open in the airport’s Terminal 4 in January 2025, according to Phoenix New Times. The airport’s operators will run the new Tacos Chiwas so that the menu will have limitations, such as no gorditas. However, travelers will still find the staples of the menu at this location, including plenty of tacos, burritos, and salads. Unlike any other airport concession, Tacos Chiwas will serve fresh corn tortillas made on-site.
While the owners of Tacos Chiwas, Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin, will not own and operate this one location, the duo has a handful of other projects that are set to debut in the greater Phoenix area in the coming months. What Now Phoenix recently reported on the Chiwas Group, along with Roberto Centeno, opening Main Burger AZ in the former home of Subway in Mesa. The restaurant is set to have a soft opening in mid-November and a grand opening planned for December 1.
This is just the beginning for Hernandez and Holguin. On top of the new burger concept, the duo plans to open El Jardin at Culdesac, the carless Tempe community located at 2001 E. Apache Boulevard. The new concept will open on Halloween as a temporary beer garden with 16 beers and ciders on draft from a 40-foot shipping container. Depending on the customer’s response, this concept may soon find a permanent residence in the future. Hernandez tells Phoenix New Times that El Jardin will be at Culdesac for about a year and a half.
Hernandez and Holguin are very familiar with Culdesac, as they operate Aruma Cafe and Cocina Chiwas in the area. The former opened earlier this year. The restaurateurs are in the process of giving Aruma Cafe some new life at night by adding a wine and bar on site. The team anticipates opening Aruma Bar later this month or the first weekend of November, only serving on Fridays and Saturdays. Customers can expect a variety of batched cocktails and small bites.
