The Phoenix-based restaurant chain True Food Kitchen looks to be getting ready to open a new location in Tempe at 950 Mill Ave.

The company recently applied for a liquor license for the former home of Planet Sub and Acai ME, near the Arizona State University campus. A representative from the company tells What Now Phoenix that an official announcement will be coming in a few weeks with more details. This will be the second True Foods Kitchen in Tempe, following a to-go-only site. There are also locations in the Scottsdale Quarter and Phoenix’s Biltmore Fashion Park. The company has over 40 locations in 17 states.

True Food Kitchen made its Phoenix debut in 2008, led by Dr. Andrew Weil and Sam Fox. Customers can expect a menu based on Weil’s philosophy of better living by eating anti-inflammatory foods. The new location comes on the heels of True Foods Kitchen hiring a new CEO. Long-time restaurant industry executive John Williams will be replacing Christine Barone after six years Previously, Williams served as the chief marketing officer for Southern California-based Lazy Dog Restaurants, as well as an executive at The Disneyland Resort, and held roles at General Mills and Nestle.

“As a long-time admirer of Dr. Weil, and huge personal fan of the brand, I am thrilled to be joining the True Food Kitchen team,” Williams said in a statement. “This is an exciting time to be a part of the company in the midst of its growth and in advance of several exciting changes the brand plans to unveil this spring, including elevated updates across the menu, restaurant design, and brand identity.”
