An Argentinian bakery Baires Home is coming to Kerns, according to a liquor license permit filed with the City of Portland. The restaurant is opening on 2137 E Burnside St., in a small shopping plaza that currently houses Olé Olé and Sammich Portland.

The upcoming bakery is owned by Alejandra Kochanowski. Kochanowski moved to California from Argentina in 2001. You may have had the chance to experience Kochanowski’s food at the Portland Mercado, where she served sandwiches and empanadas out of Alecocina, an Argentinian food truck. A 2024 fire forced Portland Mercado to close, forcing Alecocina to close as well. While the food cart pod is set to reopen in 2026, it looks like Kochanowski is striking out on her own.

Baires Home will operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., able to seat 20 people indoors with an additional outdoor space that can seat 15 people. Baires Home doesn’t have an opening date as of yet. What Now Portland has reached out to Baires Home for more information.
