The rumors are true, and Black Bear Diner is set to open in Salem next month.
Staff of the diner recently provided construction updates for the location coming to 5005 Commercial Street SE on social media. This is in place of the former Shari’s Cafe & Pies and will be Oregon’s 11th Black Bear Diner location. According to an online listing, the diner is opening on Oct. 21.
This newest location will be the first in the Salem area. It’s on the south side of Salem in the South Gateway neighborhood. The diner is right at the corner of Commercial Street SE and Kuebler Boulevard, next to b2 Taphouse & Brewery.
“Things are moving along nicely here. We remain committed to opening the second half of October,” said their recent Facebook post. Work on the inside including the kitchen is being done.
The West Coast diner has become famous for their bigfoot chicken fried steak and eggs among other breakfast items. French toast, waffles and omelettes are also options at every location. The Salem diner will also have Friday night fish fries starting at 4 p.m.
Hours of operation have not been listed yet. The franchisee is listed as Amber Dizon, who has not yet responded to What Now Portland’s request for comment.. For more information on Black Bear Diner opening in Salem can be found on their Facebook page.
