An Oregon local with passions for coffee and music is opening a new shop in the neighborhood this December.
Mayger Coffee is coming to 6812 NE Broadway in the TM Banh Mi Vietnamese restaurant space, per a report from Bridgetown Bites. It’s being opened by Arlen Kallunki, who has previous hospitality experience. Kallunki told What Now Portland he is hoping to open by the end of next month.
Kallunki grew up in Mayger, a small community along the Columbia River. He has worked in the restaurants over the years and had the dream of opening his own establishment. For the new concept, he will serve mostly pastries, oatmeal porridge, salt-cured salmon and coffees.
Mayger Coffee is just south of Rose City Golf Course on the west side of the neighborhood. The cafe will open next to The Snug, a bar known for live music. Madison South is on the east side of town, about 15 minutes from downtown Portland.
The space is currently under construction, and inside there will be space for guests to sit and socialize. Kallunki first teased his concept in September, and now he is anticipating a late December opening.
