According to a recent permit filing, Hammurabi is set to open its doors in the Wilkes area at 13816 NE Sandy Boulevard.

A representative of Hammurabi was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now Portland’s request.

While an official opening date has yet to be confirmed, and overall information about Hammurabi is limited, the permit filing states the days of operation are every day from 11 AM to 12 AM.

According to dictionary.com, “Hammurabi” is in reference to an ancient king of Mesopotamia, who is known for putting the laws of his country into a formal code.

The code of Hammurabi follows five principles: equality and justice, social hierarchy, economic regulations, family law, and legal precedent. Hammurabi’s Code is said to represent a monumental achievement in the history of jurisprudence. Its emphasis on justice, albeit within the context of its time, left a mark on the development of legal systems worldwide.

Beyond its legal significance, Hammurabi’s reign contributed to the cultural and architectural development of Babylon, transforming it into what is described as a magnificent city that remains an archaeological treasure trove for historians.
