Hawaiian restaurant 808 Grinds is opening a new location in Cedar Mill, according to the restaurant’s Facebook post. Located in the Peterkort Towne Square shopping plaza on 10970 SW Barnes Rd., the new location is more of a move for 808 Grinds, recently closing its longtime Beaverton location on March 17.

Named after the sole area code in Hawaii, 808 Grinds was founded by childhood friends Kevin Scofield and Jensen Yip. The pair grew up in Hawaii and reconnected as adults in Portland. They opening the first 808 Grinds as a food cart in 2010, operating under the motto, “Spreading Da Aloha, One Plate at a Time.”

808 Grinds offers an array of popular Hawaiian dishes, like kalua pig and loco moco, burger patties with sunny side eggs and slathered in brown gravy. Its plates come with a side of rice and mac salad. 808 Grinds also has a small selection of poke, and a colorful array of desserts like its sweet potato haupia pie, a shortbread crust foundation topped with a layer of purple Okinawan sweet potato and a white layer of coconut haupia. The entire pie comes together looking like the cross section of an amethyst geode.

True to their motto, 808 Grinds has spread across Portland, with its food truck at Gigantic Brewing in Reed and brick-and-mortar locations in Hillsboro and Northeast Portland.
